Artist’s Statement-
My paintings are abstractions of natural images in my environment. As a result, I am drawn to landscapes, which I’ve enjoyed since childhood, whether I was living in Germany, California, New Mexico or Michigan, all with their patchwork patterns stimulating me to improvise with design, altering shapes and colors. While referencing what I see, I don’t imitate it, but rather present it in a “painterly realism” style. I take liberties by accentuating elements which I think will communicate my experience best. When I’m painting, I become totally absorbed in the process, often letting the painting lead me as I’m responding to my brushstrokes, lines, colors and shapes.
